A Brief History of MyRedFlare...
MyRedFlare has been under development since 1999 when, while trekking in remote regions of Tasmania, we were inspired by the amazing people we met. You may have met them yourself... they look just like everybody else any yet you will never see them truly at peace unless is is at the end of a day in the wilderness when their own personal challenges have been fought and won.
Often they are from other countries, far from the family and friends who would care the most if anything should go wrong. And yet they choose to roam the untamed edges of the planet, seeking out the remnants of wilderness where nature and her laws still hold sway. Are they on a quest to challenge themselves, to test, strengthen and enrich their souls? Or are they simply hiding from a world they don't fit, like so many square pegs in round holes? Each, I am sure, has his or her own answer (which might change from day-to-day.)
So many so far from the protective cocoon of home! Surely there must be a better way to look out for them than a rarely-read entry in a Ranger's logbook and an infrequent email or phonecall home. There must be a better way to help their families find them should that irregular contact be missed, some way to get the authorities to believe that their son or daughter is more than an unreliable inconvenience who may actually require help, NOW!
And so, having a strong dose of aviation in our veins, it occurred to us that an adaption of the "Sartime" procedures used by aviators would fill this role. Such a system could be adapted for the modern communication world to monitor these young adventurers, call for help if need be, and give their parents and friends the information and credibility needed to get the authorities onside (should the need arise).
So our "Sarwatch" system was born and has been in development ever since. The other features of this site have evolved from some of the developments needed to make the Sarwatch system work.
We contend that people pushing their personal boundaries of courage are expressing the best that our human spirit has to offer, painting a picture in life that goes a long way toward justifying our very existence. These artisans of experience should be treasured and protected, where possible, against the fates.
All of our Travel Safety features are designed with this in mind. We hope you'll like them.
